How to study French Online with French-in3.
The purpose of this interactive Website is not only to help you learn quickly, but also to make
you learn effectively.
As a very experienced teacher of French, I would like to underline that learning French requires, above all, good bases on the pronunciation.
There are only 15 rules of pronunciation which will help you to pronounce correctly all French words in 3 hours!!!
To learn French is not difficult at all, if you follow a single rule, the repetition, given that our mind is not a computer to register automatically all we read.
I shall follow you till the end of every chapter so that you have no difficulty.
How do you have to revise?
You will need a system, but as the system is dictated by the teacher, it’s me who shall guide you during your learning.
Before starting the lessons, look carefully at the front pages, notice the structure of the language, listen to a slow song, such as Christophe’s ”Hand in hand”, try to say correctly French r as you hear it, as well as the nasal letters in blue, observe the red letters which are never pronounced and get familiarised with the language you will soon speak.
It is useful to learn the alphabet in order to know how each letter is pronounced.
It has 26 letters like the English one, but they are pronounced differently. You have to try to pronounce correctly the letters in the way I indicate in the sound files.
To pronounce correctly the sounds of French is very important.
Even if you learn to build sentences, if you do not pronounce correctly, you will not understand the sound files and you will not be able to change your pronunciation any more .
That is why you should work slowly at the beginning and accelerate later on.
Open an exercise book.
Write the alphabet with beautiful letters and recite by heart while looking at it at the same time.
If you recite it by heart without pronouncing correctly, it is false.
Finally as long as you move forward with the rules of pronunciation, return to the alphabet and all previous rules until they seem easy to you.
First read the rule and listen to the sound file 4 or 5 times.
Once you have listened to it, and have repeated it in the same way as in the sound file, write the rules in the exercise book (after the alphabet) in a few words:
All words are stressed on the last syllable.
The h is not pronounced.
Nasal n or m are in blue.
(pronounced of course with the vowel before them).
It is not useful for your learning to repeat more than 5 times.
BUT it’s better to continue and return back often.
In this way you will improve little by little and everything will be printed in your mind without realising it.
This advice concerns the pronunciation rules.
As regards grammar and the lessons, I shall explain the learning method to you afterwards.
Did you finish with the rules of pronunciation? Congratulations!
Do you read easily?
This chapter will help you to practise everything you have already learnt.
TO READ EASILY.
By reading, you will realise little by little that ‘‘le” is the masculine, ”la” is the feminine and ‘‘les” is the plural of the Definite Articles.
(If you don’t remember the grammatical terms, don’t worry, I explain everything in the lesson ”What’s grammar?”)
Also you can observe how is the verb to be (je suis) and to have (j’ai).
By learning to read, you get acquainted with French.
And in the exercise book now? Choose to write the words and the sentences you like.
Many or few, it is not important.
What’s very important now? To read very very easily.
You may check yourself in the next lesson not only on the reading, but also on the understanding, seeing that the text has a logical connection.
It will be the first test on reading, but also on comprehension.
Are you ready to move to the next lesson? Do you read easily?
The text is followed by detailed explanations of the words you have read, so that you may have a first impression of the French grammar.
This is why it’s good to read again and again until everything is understood.
The multiple-choice test which follows, will let you know how much of text you have understood.
EXPLANATION OF GRAMMATICAL TERMS
Grammar is essential, but it has many chapters, that’s why before you study every chapter separately, read this summary I wrote to make you understand its structure.
We conceive grammar throught learning dialogues, but it is imperative to learn:
the auxiliary verbs:
to be (être: je suis), to have (avoir: j’ai)
as well as the regular verbs:
to speak, to talk (parler: je parle).
In this chapter continue to listen to the sound file and repeat it.
After that write the words in the exercise book.
Learn the meaning of the words you will need, because you will be asked to do at the vocabulary test as well as an oral presentation, by first writing down the text and then saying while taking glances at it now and then.
DIALOGUES IN PARIS
In this last chapter you will practice your listening in order to be able to do the tests which follow every lesson.
After the dialogues in Paris I wrote you some expressions which you may use if you find yourself in Paris or in another French-speaking city.
(You can also transfer them to your smartphone)
Find here expressions you might want to use, (Moi = I)
or French people might tell you. (Français = French)
1200 WORDS IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER
In this dictionary all the words of this website are included.
The dictionary is followed by a test of all the words.
Have fun while studying!
